The Gave d'Oloron torrential crystal-clear waters are classified in the first category.
This beautiful river is internationally renowned for migratory fishes such as Atlantic salmon, sea trout, lamprey and shad, as well as brown trout, which can reach 35 to 45 cm and sometimes more.
Fishing period starts on the 2nd Saturday of March. Fly fishing remains the most traditional.
The level, colour and temperature of the water will determine the choice of fly and type of silk.
As the Gave is a powerful river, wading is often necessary and, for safety reasons, it is better to be accompanied by a guide who knows the river.
